Biography

Pradip Majumdar is currently the chair and a professor of mechanical engineering; and the director of heat and mass transfer laboratory in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Northern Illinois University (NIU), where he has been teaching and conducting research since 1984.He has completed over 35 funded research projects and has published over 100 technical refereed articles. He has published two text books: 1. Computational Heat and Mass Transfer and 2. Fuel Cell: Analysis and Design. He is professionally very active in organizing and chairing national and internal conferences, workshops in heat and mass transfer, computational fluid dynamics, micro-nanoscale heat transfer, electronics cooling and fuel cell energy systems. He has been making keynote and plenary speaker presentations at national/international conferences and workshops. He is very active in professional societies and is an active member of ASME technical committees such as K-16: Heat Transfer of Electronics and K-20: Computational Heat Transfer. He is currently serving as the Editor-in-Chief for the Journal of Transactions of Fluid Mechanics and Associate Editor of ASME Journal of Thermal Science and Engineering. He was the guest editor for Journal of Electronics manufacturing for special issues on electronics cooling. He received the CEET Faculty of the Year Award for excellence in education. He is an elected Fellow of ASME.

His research interests and experiences are in Thermo-fluid Sciences; Multi-Physics Simulation Modeling, Design and Data Analysis; Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and Heat Transfer CFD, Finite Element Methods; Fuel Cell Power Generation System, Li-Ion Battery Storage systems; Alternative and Renewable Energy Systems; High Heat Flux Electronics Cooling, Thermal Interface Materials using Nanomaterials, Software Thermal Management for Embedded Systems; High Energy Laser Material Processing and Additive Manufacturing, Blood flow in human arteries, stent design and drug delivery system; and Energy-human tissue interactions
